Wii Fit sales plunge in Britain

May 28, 2008

Take it as you will, but British sales charts (i’m chart crazy this week) show that last week’s #3, Wii Fit, is this week’s #40. Kotaku explains it away by imparting that Wii Fit “is completely sold out” in that territory. Riiiight. Even for $90 a pop, Nintendo cannot, with a straight face, make believe that they were “cautious” about this “risky” game, “fearing” it might “under perform,” and thus shipped low quantities of the most profusely marketed game software product in their history. I refuse to believe that.

Side note: i tried to get Wii Fit on Saturday, but Gamestop didn’t even let me consider it. When i asked some kid if they had it in stock, he told me they didn’t because Nintendo wasn’t selling it anymore. Whether his age was showing and he meant Nintendo wasn’t shipping it anymore, or if in fact they did stop selling it, i have no clue.

My question is, is this a global shortage, a case of over-market and under-ship, what?

1) GTA IV (360)
2) GTA IV (PS3)
3) Age of Conan
4) Haze
5) Wii Play
6) Rock Band
7) Mario & Sonic At The Olympics (Wii)
8) Mario Kart Wii
9) Brain Training
10) Pro Evo 2008 (Wii)
