Okamii?

October 17, 2007

Everyone loves a good rumor, and if it’s good enough for joystiq dammit, it’s good for enough for us!  So.  The French are at it again. Spreading rumors of a game.  Yes, a game!  A critical darling!  It’s called Okamii!  OK, it’s really called Okami, and it was released for the PS2 a few years back to critical praise and sluggish sales.  Now according to the Frenchies it’s going to be ported Wii, like Capcom did with RE4.

Okami would be an interesting port since it’d give more people access to a terrific game that never really got its due on PS2.  The “brush technique” mechanic that Okami is famous for (you would draw brush strokes on the screen to achieve certain things in the game) would work well with the wiimote too, making this a solid investment were it to come out as a budget game for $30 or hopefully less.

Are you guys excited about this?  I have it for the PS2 and I’ve been biding my time and waiting for the perfect weekend to open and play it, but how would you guys feel about playing it on Wii.  For that matter, is there any game out there that you wouldn’t MIND being ported to Wii?

Didn’t Clover develop the original Okami, with Capcom as the publisher? …. last i heard Clover went under … which means Capcom is scooping up the franchise Veiwtiful Joe style … O well, i see no downside to this.

    Carry on.

Yeah Capcom basically shut Clover down and the clover team put up their own studio. Capcom would still own the right to Okami though as far as I know.

Love it. I have it on PS2, and played maybe the first 2 hours of it. I’d probably play more of it on Wii, because the game would be more fun on Wii.

There are a LOT of good games out there that would benefit from a Wii port, but Okami would be the first one that comes to mind! Problem is, it won’t be long before the title loses its appeal. Capcom needs to get it out there within a year, or else they shouldn’t bother. They also need to get some extra content for the Wii version at this point.

Yay! I’m almost glad I didn’t get Okami for PS2, so I can enjoy it fresh with motion controls!!

Good news indeed! Finally, this game will (hopefully) get the love it deserves!

But a part of me is frustrated with this piece of news. The game is available on the freaking PS2, and yet it was somewhat ignored. I remember when this game lost to Gears of War on the “most original game” vote on X-Play (granted, it was X-Play after all), and now all of a sudden, Okami is so great again…

Frankly, I would rather have a DS sidestory game with Issun, or better yet a completely new Okami sequel for the Wii.

The rehashing is getting old (oh look, a pun). I agree with Joey, i’d rather they make a sequel, but I-man has a point. They’re probably doing it this way so we keep it in mind and plant the seed for the next in the series, which would probably take longer to release.

It’s irritating that the way most of these devs are maximizing profits on Wii is by shoving sloppy PS2 seconds onto it.

A DS sequel or independent version would be better than a port.

I’m not so sure how I’d feel about a sequel, since most of the minds who were behind Okami have left. Hopefully there are still creative people in capcom who can take the franchise and run with it.

Hopefully the game doesn’t bomb like it did on the PS2. It surely will sell more than the PS2 version, but considering the PS2 version sold practically nothing, it shouldn’t be too hard.

It’s time for the Nintendo fanboys to put up or shut up about supporting 3rd party games.
