Next handheld evolution coming from HP

September 29, 2007

Could be great, could be shit. Who knows. But Hewlett-Packard are working on this new handheld which uses GPS, a camera i presume, and other things to transfer real-world footage into your game and transform your play session into Surf Ninjas 2: Geeks Run Amok (click the source link for the [old] video). The thing takes a smart cue from the Game Boy Micro’s aethetic design, and seems to incorporate a touch panel face (including screen and button operation) for that extra dash of future-ness. It uses HP’s “Mscape” gaming software, which i don’t know the significance of but the term must be pretty important to be so prominently displayed in quotes.

The prototype above is kinda fuglified, but the concept is attractive enough to keep an eye on. Just don’t expect it anytime soon. If it works out, we might have a nice Game Boy replacement after all. Like a mother who wanted a daughter, but instead dresses up her little boy in Shirley Temple clothing and gives him pigtails and big swirly lollipops. That’ll be us.

The iPhone could be a game platform if it was bigger.

Yep. A damn cool/expensive one, too.

Doesn’t the image above look like they made a design in MS Paint, printed it out on normal printing paper, then wrapped it around a cardboard box? Nothing there looks like plastic or metal or anything resembling a real electronic device.

Actually it does. The water mark in the corner actually looks like it is sticking outward.

that thing right there looks like ass. The guy who put it together is an asshat. HA! check out the Nokia N81 on

I wish i knew how to do basic html. little blog-whoring for you guys here. I have some love left for the Ngage platform, and the N81 looks to make things interesting at least, it’s one of the few Nokia designs that are half decent. And don’t look like they were designed by an asshat.

Looks like a big ol’ micro, but without the software!
