Samurai Warriors:Katana shows a little promise

It’s not exactly the light saber game every geek dreamed about when they first saw the Wii waggle, but Koei is dishing out a Samurai Warriors game that just might be closest thing you can get. The combat mechanics have me a little puzzled, but I do like the fact that you’ll get to use different weapons throughout the game, along with a backup long range weapon as well. It looks like the game will also offer alternate ways to finish it, providing a little bit of replay value to the mix.

Props to Koei, but I do wish sometimes that they’d go back to their simulation roots. I want me some Nobunaga’s ambition and Gemfire, baby!

Well, we already had a sword fighting simulator on Wii: Red Steel!

The reason that game had a cold reception is that the dream of actually controlling the sword’s movements by moving the contoller by analogy didn’t happen: you made a gesture with the remote, and the game simply followed with a pre-recorded movement that didn’t actually follow your moves with the remote…

And except for Elebits, you will find the same thing in every first-person control scheme in Wii games so far.

Is Samurai Warriors: Katana going to suffer the same fate?

God, finally! All I want for Wii is to be able to stab virtual people with the Wiimote and have it actually be real. Is that so hard?
