Nintendo announces more casual games for Wii

June 27, 2007

So the word is that Wii will finally get some original downloadable content ala Xbox Live Arcade. They’re courting not only established developers but also independent game studios with small teams and big ideas. This is all well and good, and nobody ever complained about original new IPs. People have gravitated to such games as Geometry Wars on the Xbox 360 and David Jaffe’s “Calling all Cars” on the PS3. However, there’s one thing that those two games have in common which may not bode well for Nintendo diehards: Both are casual games, which typify the type of games available for download (see Pacman Championship edition, settlers of catan). And on a system inundated with casual games seeking to cash in on Nintendo’s strangehold on the market, this can’t be a great thing.

Yeah they nixed the hard drive, i’m betting USB memory too. Seems kinda half assed though.
