“Grindhouse aint got nothin’ on me!” — Suda 51

June 21, 2007

No More Heroes may have to worry around shipping time if they hear the the ESRB come knocking, but for now all Suda 51 has on his mind is making the game psycho-kooky-kooky-crazy.

In the latest Famitsu issue, Suda reveals more bits and pieces of the one Wii game i’m watching out for. For one, he let loose another of the game’s 10 assasins, the missile-legged Holly Summers, which Suda describes as follows:

“I wanted to show this character as quickly as possible since it looks almost like a character from the double-feature movie Grindhouse. But in the movie, it’s a machine gun, while Holly has a missile, so she has more firepower!”

You can’t say the man aint proud. Mental patient Suda also had this to say about his forthcoming action movie of a game:

“Assigning moves onto the Wii Remote and Nunchuk was [more] difficult than I imagined. We have been so used to playing everything by pressing the buttons on the controller, but Nintendo’s stance is that this doesn’t always have to be the case,” said Suda 51. “I think wrestling games will fit perfectly with the Wii. I’m sure power bombs will work great on this!”

In regards to my favorite last gen game, Suda says NoMoreHeroes…

“is not an extension of Killer 7, but goes the opposite direction, sort of like a reaction if you will. The story of Killer 7 was very complex so this time it will be very simple. The character was also complex since it had multiple personalities, but Travis as a character is much clearer and simpler.”

Does everything have to be simple on Wii? The hell with it, just don’t go the opposite direction of fun and interesting, too.

Suda’s plots and visuals are so crazy, the ESBR will let this one slip by just because they won’t be able to understand what’s going on!

(Hey, it happened with Killer 7!)

Maybe the new simplicity factor will help grab their attention. Or maybe that’s just him taking the opposite route to confuse people cause they expect him to be weird again.

In seriousness though, he’s gotten by with M’s because his games are always cartoony and anime-like. Same case here with NMH.

Im just glad that there are developers still putting out original games”i.e. Okami, K7, and now No More Heroes.” As an artist I applaud the obscure. Even if the game somehow flops, it will still hopefully inspire others to add more depth and substance, rather than just add more shadows and shiny objects….”Bunjie, please take notes.”
