Belated: Wii gets seperate Soul Calibur
I saw this scan a couple days ago and wondered what is was for, thinking it was a supplementary arcade version to Soul Calibur 4 on the meathead systems. Turns out it’s a supplementary Wii version. But of courrrse.
I’m over a month late with this, but the game’s called Soul Calibur Legends. Apparently it’s a action-adventure spinoff, and with a name like Legends and the platform it’s on, half of this sentence should be a given.
Info after the break.
Seigfried takes point in the storyline, but Namco Bandai promises players will play their favorites from the series — and even introduce some new faces, too. We know little of the story, though, other than understanding the characters come together to complete “a quest for ultimate power in order to save an empire from destruction.”
“Over the past ten years, since the release of the original Soul Blade, the team behind the Soulcalibur series has pushed the envelope of technology and innovation with each iteration,” said Makoto Iwai, exec. VP and COO of Namco Bandai America. “With Soulcalibur Legends, they saw the opportunity to once again create an immersive experience that is unique to the franchise.”
The control scheme’s being kept under wraps, but is said to incorporate both the Wiimote and nunchuck simultaneously. There should be something more than simply swinging the Wiimote around, just don’t expect the same depth as the fighting series. As more fighting experience is gathered, however, players can earn titles (i.e. Knight, Soldier) that unlock additional attacks.
This has me more intrigued than the proper sequel. I bought SC2 for Link — who didn’t? — and it was a good game, but i’m not really the fighting game type. What would be great is if they incorporate a classic fighting mode, even if dumbed down, as a multiplayer (dare i say… online) diversion to get the best of both caliburs.
