FF Crystal Chronicles:The Crystal Bearers gives me hope

Square-Enix has long been one of my favorite video game developers, ever since I first got hooked to Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan). They have a history of churning out beautiful games and squeezing out the maximum graphical capabilities of a system (Vagrant Story for the PS1 and Final Fantasy 3 for DS come to mind), and hopefully they can do the same for Wii in the form of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

While I can’t say I’m too ecstatic about their orgasm of games set in the FFXIII universe and their aggressive hit as many targets as we can stance, At least they’re not making Wii-ports. Crystal bearers is an original IP based on the well received if underappreciated Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles released for the gamecube a few years ago.

As of yet, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of news on the what the story or gameplay will be like, but Square-Enix reps have confirmed that the focus will be more on the single player game rather than the sketchy multiplayer aspect introduced by its predecessor. Square have rarely come out with duds, especially when it comes to RPGs, so I’m fairly certain that Crystal bearers will be a terrific game. Till more deets come out into the light, peep the trailer that Square-Enix recently released at their gamer’s day event in Tokyo, and let me know what you guys think (just let the page load fully and ignore the Japanese text).

I don’t like the detail-lacking art style, which bows down to Baten Kaitos on the Cube. But it moves really nicely, and the camera (in what seemed like battle scenes from the video) looked dope as hell. The main guy looks cool, too.

I’ll make a mental note of this one.

Wait, wait… Will I need three friends with DS to play this one??
