Nintendo Finally Cocky Enough for Booth at TGS
If you’re Japans most popular games console, and you’ve recently secured an exclusive to one of the country’s best selling and revered franchises, where do you go next? Why the Tokyo Game Show of course. Nintendo has appeared at the TGS of course over the years, but they have never bothered to have a booth of their own. Nintendo’s ego makes them allergic to sharing the limelight with competitors, and much prefer public events be run on their own terms, with them the center of attention.
So why the change of heart for this years TGS? Dragon Quest IX for the DS. As some of you might know, the Dragon Quest series is Japans best selling role-playing franchise, even outselling Final Fantasy. Dragon Quest always owns the TGS, and Nintendo’s hitching a ride. 40 million game selling series, on a game system with 40 million users and growing. It just makes sense right? The word is that fans packing their DS with them to the show will be able to download a DQ IX demo from the show-floor to try out rather than waiting for hours in line. You can hear the nerd-gasm rumbling already. Wonder how much the demo will offer considering the game itself will use two DS cards.
Which reminds me! Where the hell is the Connect24 demos for the DS that Nintendo talked about so long ago? I’m sure all those fans that can’t make it to shows like TGS would love a chance to demo the game as well. Weren’t we supposed to be going to bed and then waking up to find demos, trailers and what not waiting for us? Am I just impatient, or was this all just big talk? I guess when your running things for the moment, you get to decide if and when.
