Sadness and the fanbots

April 12, 2007

That’s the name of my post-ragtime, pre-classical beatbox band. No it isn’t.

Sadness is a mythical fanboy pipe dream for nerdcore Wii owners. This game concept has assumed the messiah role for many of them who still want Wii to be the industry’s revolutionary, absolute truth. It exists solely as a promise and a couple pictures. They’ve tried to tell me otherwise, but like when people say Tenacious D is awesome or funny, i just don’t see the proof. *Spoiler*: there is none. Now even less so. From Joystiq:

Last year Nibris [the dev] announced a publisher (Frontline Studios) had picked up the game. Time passed and no news came out of either company. A forum member at IGN decided to investigate and contacted Frontline. The response? “[We are] no longer interested in developing Sadness game based on Nibris’ concept.” How … sad.

The folks at Kiff News weren’t satisfied, so they investigated a little further and got in touch with Nibris. The company confirmed the split with Frontline and insisted that Sadness and other projects are in development. One of the company’s leads has been out sick, which was the reason behind their silence.

Hopefully, one day, a solid game will rise out of this mess. Wait till you see it before you laminate it.

    Ahem, Rollin. Ahem.

Joystiq needs a voice like yours, too bad they don’t have the cojones to risk having someone speak the truth.

    Mallelujah, brother.

Hm. Reminds me of day of disaster, that other game everyone keeps waiting and hoping to see.

Disaster has actually been shown, so it’s different. This is more akin to the other “indie” games, Orb and Thorn, coming from the other “indie” Wii developer, Crossbeam Studios.

If by shown you mean a 5 minute demo, then yeah, but has anything esle been shown that doesn’t make it look like another piece of vaporware? Honest question.

Another one for my “Top Ten Games That Never Were” list…

Good question, but Nintendo wouldn’t publish it if it were vapor.

er. come one give it a chance… We all need more indie devs on all consoles, no point shooting them down just yet imagen if you were a indie dev and all you read was negative “reports” like this … You are actually harming the industry for everyone not just the wii market shame on you…

Who’s to say the dev team wont read this and go ahead and make the game better? Who’s to say anyone really reads this site?. Who’s to say?
