Pikmin 3 in the works?

HAL always gets fanboys excited when they see old forgotten Nintendo characters in a Smash Brothers game.

A 3-D Samus, Ness, Solid Snake, Pit, and now an ode to Pikmin?

In this screen from Super Smash Brother Brawl you can see a Bulborb next to the Nintendog on the left hand side. The scale is a little off but hey, its a very recognized character to anyone familiar to the series.

I found this story a little bit ago while reading up on some Pikmin for my wife. She is back tracking to Pikmin from Pikmin 2.

As we’ve already been hinted that Nintendo are interested in the franchise by the renewal of the trademark, and now this obscure little reference to the series is all positive signs.

– According to an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in the June/July 2002 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine, the tiny creatures featured in the game, called ‘Pikmin’, are named after Miyamoto’s dog, Pik.

– During the Game Developers Conference 2007, Miyamoto mentioned that most of the elements of Mario 128 were incorporated into the Pikmin game.

– IGN gave Pikmin (1) a 9.1, or “Outstanding,” rating, impressed by the use of textures and orchestration. The gameplay was noted for being fun for players of many different experience levels.^[1]
