Trick your (PAL) Wii to play (NTSC) GNC Games *Updated*

Pretty ghetto. Not a mod at all, just some switching before your Wii knows what you are doing.
A clever little bugger over at the MaxConsole has managed to ‘hack’ the Wii to play import games. Any PAL system can play any NTSC title using this clever little method, but it takes a bit of speedy manoeuvring. No wire cutting, no faffing about, nothing technical, just taking out one disk and putting in another. Here’s how it works, step by step.
Shove in a PAL GameCube disk
Enter the Disk Channel section Point your Wii Remote at the start button but DON’T start the game just yet. Press the eject button on the Wii then, after a second or so, click on the on-screen start button on the Wii. The speedy bit: the moment your Wii chucks out the PAL disk, quickly whip it out and shove in the NTSC disk (you have to be VERY quick). The game should boot up as normal.
So these Euro’s figured this out. The question for me now is will this work the other way around? In theory it should but for all we know the Euro Wii had the PAL format rigged like a Gamecube to Wii Port.

Nice try, but doesn’t work today 4th Jan 2008. Tried loading Jillian Michaels NTSC version wii Fitness Ultimatum 2009 this way…”unable to read disc”. Tried a few variations of instructions and was very fast to change discs…always same outcome. Perjaps Nintendo have updated any gap in software in the interim? Thanks for entertaining blog nonetheless!

hi i got the ntsc version of rockband 2 for the wii and forgot about the whole region codes as i have a pal wii will that trick work for me?? or any suggestions

Eh. I’ve tried that when I first heard of it, to no avail. So I ended up buying an NTSC Wii after all.
My -uneducated- guess is that the trick doesn’t work after a certain upgrade. At least that’s what killed some other trickx and glitches I know of.
im canaidan and i purchased the bigs 2 at harrod’s in london england. everytime i load the game it says unable to read disc and i need pal. what is pal and how do i purchase it?
