Wiimail?

I was trolling ebay.ph (ebay philippines) just now hoping that some enterprising entrepreneur had a) managed to snag a Wii and b) brought it all the way to the Philipines to sell on an online auction. No such luck. What I did run across was a deluge of bizarre posts hawking Wii and PS3 related gmail accounts like wii.powerseller.gmail.com. Clicking on the links reveals a catchy marketing message:

You are Bidding for a Hard -To-Get Nintendo Wii Email / Gmail Address (Not the Console)

wii.powerseller.100@gmail.com

Gmail Accounts are by invitation ONLY!
Wii Email Accounts are a Great Way of Showing Your Commitment, Professionalism and Seriousness

What better way to let your buyers know that you are a:
Serious Wii Powerseller with a 100 Feedback Rating

Yes, “what better way” indeed? Is this local or has this been happening elsewhere?

I guess it is the same idea as buying up domain names and selling them for a whole lot more.

If I had a store online called the Wii Outlet, that $9.99 domain on the hip and cool Gmail may just be work $100

I saw that. It’s a pretty shit way of getting some money. Are you even allowed to sell gmail and hotmail accounts? I thought you can’t since they are the company’s property.

It would seem that they sell their usernames and passwords.
