Wii + Wavebird = Fugly
2006 October 27
Saw this pic on Matt’s IGN blog.
I think I just threw up in my mouth. This looks like some 5 year old made some hideous lego monstrosity

I want to know why the flap could not flip up and slide into the console to hide itself. I also want to know how hard it would have been to integrate a Wavebird receiver into the console its self.
I may just play Game Cube games on my Game Cube to avoid this eye sore.

…who cares? I think its the stupid green front someones attached that looks ridiculous. Even so… …really, who cares?
The green front means its a dev kit, fyi. That said, I think I threw up in my mouth a little, just the same.
Hmmm… I wonder if you can just simply take off the flap cover altogether…
um… do you sit and stare at the console all day instead of playing games ? who gives a crap what it looks like, the only reason they spend money on aesthetics is to draw people into buying the thing off the shelf.
Who sits a console (or any optical disc-media device) on its side anyway?
Not that it would look significantly less ugly. Yikes. Here’s hoping Rev. (2) has an RJ-45 port and a WaveBird reciever built in.

If you don’t really care about aesthetics why don’t you use cynderblocks and a sheet of plywood (or a broken door for that matter) as your entertainment center. In fact, why not just tape the damn thing to the wall with duct tape so it can be considered the first wall mountable console.
Sorry I like my stuff to look neat, but even more sorry that I annoyed you with my opinion *tear*
It’s not even that it’s ugly – which it is – but that it makes the thing look awkward. Then Nintendo comes and pokes another finger in your eye by confirming that you can’t use the Classic controller with Cube games.
As if GameCube owners weren’t embarrassed enough about console aesthetics..
Don’t worry, fris. Guys like that who criticize something like this are the same ones who say that they won’t buy the black DS Lite because it smudges too easily (or say the same for a PSP).
ugly
its so ugly that it is fuggly
I can’t believe some of you… take a picture of a Gamecube with a wavebird receiver plugged in. Then, photoshop some legos onto IT. “Ooh, God! I think I just threw up!”
This article would have been okay 4 years ago.
with a name like yours I HAVE to take you seriously.
Oh and by the way..thats a demo Wii, not a Game Cube.
the flap on the top doesn’t fold in, true. It can be removed easily, though. Just pull it up.
It snaps out actually. I still don’t like the idea of using it because: A) I only have a spice orange wired controller and i don’t wanna yank the Wii to the ground with the 2-foot short ass wire; and B) i wouldn’t buy a Wavebird because that’s an extra set of batteries you need to worry about.
The classic will probably find its way to my house someday, but for GameCube…i’ll sit veeeery close to the telly.
It looks ugly yes, but more important will it still be possible to place the wii on its side with the wavebird-receiver plugged in? Seems not…
The long side of the receiver points up when the console’s on its side.
It’s crazy how many hits this post still gets.
annoyed reminds me of that silly commentary from Sony execs that Wii was just “an impulse buy”…
Yippy kai yay
do you think you stand a chance agaist us nerds mr cowboy?
